Very little was known about Sim Queary. Various records has the name changed. However, our family will always keep their birthday straight. Based on the 1900 Census, he should have been born approximately in 1892. Most of the 1890 Census Records were destroyed. In the year 1900, Sim was enumerated in the census as being the son of Barton Marks and Georgia Ann Marks located in the Union Township of Nevada County However, we can reasonably validate him as Queary, along with his sisters Alice, Katie Queary, and brother Joe Luther. Sim was listed as being of 12 years of age at the time. We were unable to determine if he was enumerated in 1910.
The elder family members indicated that Sim migrated to the general area of Beaumont, Texas, which is near the Louisiana- Texas boarder. This appproximately 300 miles southeast of Chidester, Arkansas. Sim Queary registered for the World War I draft in 1918 at Kirbyville, (Jasper County) Texas. On the draft card form, he listed home as Prescott, Arkansas. He was enumerated in 1920 Census residing in Allen Parish, Louisiana. He later relocated to Amherst, Lamb County, Texas. He died in June 1964 and is buried in Amherst, Texas. His loving wife of many years was Mrs. Pinkie Queary passed in 1981. I located and talked with his family members in Amherst, Texas. His grand-daughter, Mrs. Doris Price of Amherst, Texas, shared this legacy of Sim with me, "although to my knowledge, Pops had no biological children. He was a wonderful father and grandfather".
